European Garden Breaks

Picture
The European Garden Breaks Club has visited a wide range of interesting gardens just across the Channel since 1997 varying from Monet's famous garden at Giverney to the small hidden woodland garden of Petit-Bordeaux.  The breaks are normally for three to four days thereby keeping the costs reasonable - our latest 3 day trip was £190 per person with a single supplement of just £35 and 4 days are around £230 per person.  There is always a guide but no paid 'gardening experts' which increases costs considerably.
Travel is always on a luxury coach with regular stops and refreshments on board.  Accommodation is always in a good quality hotel with private facilities, TV and telephone - normally on the outskirts of towns.  Breakfast is included but all other meals are normally extra however see inidividual itineraries for details of each trip.
Below are a few examples.... however if you would like to join us on any of our trips just ring 01935 424724 or contact us using the Contact Form for more details.

This four day trip was from Friday 18th to Monday 21st September 2009.  Departing from Yeovil in the afternoon pick-up points were made at Salisbury and Portsmouth before joining the overnight ferry to St Malo.  Cabin accommodation was included and we arrived in France at 8.15am the next morning.  On Saturday we went straight to the centre of Rennes to visit Le Thabor which are superb municipal gardens and parkland.  In the afternoon we visited the enchanting woodland garden of Jardin du Petit-Bordeaux (pictured below)  before going on to our hotel at Le Mans. On Sunday we drove South to the Loire Valley and visited Chateau de Beauregard in the morning and then onto the historical town of Blois for lunch.  We spent the afternoon at Chaumont Garden Festival giving plenty of time to look around and have tea.  On Monday we visited Chateau de Vendeuvre in Normandy and then onto Caen's Memorial Gardens and Museum for lunch.  We returned back to Portsmouth on the high speed ferry, arriving at Portsmouth at 5.30pm and Yeovil by 9.30pm.  This four day trip was exceptional value at £185pp (£45 single supplement)

Gardens of Haute Normandie

Picture
This three day trip was run in May 2008 for Thorncombe Gardening Club and brought together a selection of contrasting gardens around Rouen. A coach took us to the Channel Tunnel terminal and we arrived in France early afternoon, proceeding on to a hotel overlooking the River Seine in the centre.  The next day we visited Monets Garden at Giverney in the morning giving plenty of time to see the garden, house, the American Art Museum as well as have lunch. In the afternoon we visited the superb contrasting gardens of Jardins d'Angelique (pictured) which has been created around the 17th century Normandy manor house. The back is a profusion of roses and was created in memory of their young daughter whereas the front is 'English style' with gallic flair! Our final garden was Jardin d'Agapanthe (pictured below) which is a contemporary and artistic garden created by landscape architect Alexandre Thomas.  We stopped off at the traditional fishing port of St Valery sur Somme before returning on the tunnel back to the UK. This three day trip was just £140 per person (£35 single supplement)
